72 an hour 4 days ago 4 days ago 4 days ago The Communications Specialist informs, educates, and engages a wide range of stakeholders, including the general public, community leaders, business community, and internal staff, through communicating information about City services, initiatives and programs using relevant communication channels.
This part-time communications professional (25/hours per week) will work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment developing and executing communications plans.
Duties Regularly researches, creates, and edits content for the City's communication channels.
Content includes mass notification messages, newsletter articles, press releases, email messages, web pages, videos, graphics, social media messages, fact sheets, posters, flyers, surveys, and how-to guides, among other collateral.
Uses a variety of technology and tactics to communicate content, including a mass notification system, social media accounts, website, resident newsletter, employee newsletter, press releases, and government access TV station.
Consults with City departments to develop and execute communication plans to appropriately distribute information about City services, programs, and initiatives to relevant audiences, providing appropriate edits and strategic communications guidance.
Designs, writes and edits the City's resident and employee newsletters and all other publications as assigned.
Develops, monitors, and reviews content on the City's website; ensures that content and website appearance conform to citywide website guidelines.
Creates, posts, monitors, and generates ideas for content on the City's social media channels and engages with residents as needed to provide excellent customer service.
Designs, edits, and produces flyers, posters, and other promotional material.
Refers media requests for information to the appropriate spokesperson.
Conducts media monitoring to stay informed about news, trends and developments that may impact the City of Naperville.
Assists with audio-visual needs for external and internal events.
Analyzes data using analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of communications efforts.
Develops, collects, and analyzes data from external and internal surveys for departments.
Researches and responds to communications-related inquiries from the public and City departments.
Develops and nurtures cooperative working relationships with City staff and local organizations to communicate relevant information.

Qualifications Required Credentials and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
Three or more years of experience in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely related capacity.
Experience with the Office 365 suite of products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.
Preferred Education and Experience Experience with website development tools and applications.
Experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere.
Experience leading a communications plan from inception to reporting.
