Safety Technician

MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:
For the GS-7 Grade Level:
Provides technical support for all safety and health inspection activities to include citation processing, case file maintenance, inspection data entry, abatement, post-citation processes, and final case file disposition. Develops a working knowledge of OSHA compliance directives, policies and regulations and ensures inspection files and documentation are processed and maintained accordingly. Manages the office's programmed activity (UPA) intake process and provides technical support for processing, case file maintenance, data entry and final disposition of UPA files, including but not limited to Non-Formal Complaint investigations and Rapid Response Investigations. May assist in preparing for opening and closing conferences; sampling activities such as equipment calibration, field monitoring of equipment, and sample handling; outreach activities such as training preparation and development of outreach materials and presentations, and participation in limited scope outreach functions; and verbal and written responses to requests for information on OSHA legislation, regulations, programs, and compliance activities. Serves as the Area Office's central point of contact on matters pertaining to OSHA programs, including skilled intake and screening of public inquiries, fielding requests for information, and recording and coordinating complaints. Manages the reception area, receives visitors and calls, determines the nature of the call/visit and directs the call/visitor as appropriate. Manages the office mail program. Experience:
Possess experience that involved:
(l) identifying, preventing, or eliminating safety hazards in work methods or environmental conditions; or (2) safety training or promotion. Such experience must have provided a practical knowledge of occupational and environmental safety hazards, survey techniques, and control and preventive methods. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
biological technician, medical technician, engineering technician, fire prevention inspector, and environmental health worker. For GS-7:
In addition to meeting the individual occupational requirement, Applicants must have at least 52 weeks experience at the next lower level in the normal career progression of the position being filled. When compared to Federal experience, this experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of GS-06. This experience may have been gained either in the Federal or Private sectors. Examples of specialized experience include:
Provides technical support for safety and/or health inspection activities by processing citations, maintaining case files, entering inspection data and case file disposition; Receiving and processing payments, and reviewing debt collection reports Responding to requests for information, such as Freedom of Information Act requests or other requests specific to the applicant's workplace Maintaining an inventory of technical and office equipment Performing research and providing feedback Utilizing Microsoft Office suite products, such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, to provide information for inclusion in documents, briefing materials, reports, presentations, etc. Receiving and responding to visitors and phone calls, answering general safety and health questions, or forwarding them to the appropriate recipient OR ONE (1) FULL YEAR OF GRADUATE LEVEL EDUCATION or an INTERNSHIP with completed courses directly related to the work of THIS POSITION. OR A combination of SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE equivalent to the GS-06 level in or related to the work of THIS POSITION and EDUCATION with completed coursework directly related to the work of THIS POSITION.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
